Whether transformed, reduced or partially buried beneath snow, the Hillary Step remains one of the most iconic places on Mount Everest.
It marks the point where the summit feels close enough to touch, yet where exhaustion, exposure and altitude continue to test every climber.
The Hillary Step may no longer look exactly as it did when Hillary and Tenzing climbed Everest in 1953, but its significance remains unchanged.
Near 8,800 meters, where every breath matters, climbers are still tested by courage, endurance and determination.
On Everest, history never stands still.
